DALI (Danish Audiophile Loudspeaker Industries) announces BASIK SUB, a compact active subwoofer with a small footprint, that brings greater depth, scale and impact to music and movies.

Created as a natural partner for bookshelf loudspeakers including DALI KUPID and SONIK, BASIK SUB combines an in-house designed 8-inch down-firing long-stroke woofer with powerful Class-D amplification, flexible system integration and a choice of five colours.

Adding a subwoofer allows a compact speaker system to reproduce the low-frequency foundation that smaller loudspeakers cannot provide. A sub offers more discreet and more flexible placement options in smaller living spaces, where floor standing speakers may not be an option.

BASIK SUB allows your main bookshelf speakers to perform at their best, creating a fuller soundstage, cleaner midrange and greater sense of scale. For music, that means bass with greater weight and definition. For movies and TV, it brings additional impact and immersion.

"We've seen a rise in popularity of bookshelf speakers with our own award-winning KUPID and SONIK 1 speakers over the last year. This has been fuelled by small, affordable streaming amplifiers and turntables which allow consumers to create a custom hi-fi system for the price of a smartphone. BASIK SUB is designed as a natural enhancement for these systems as almost all affordable streaming amplifiers and speakers feature dedicated subwoofer output and bass management features, making it possible to get the full scale and bandwith from a compact and interior friendly package" says Krestian Pedersen, Head of Product Management at DALI

Exclusive driver technology

At the heart of BASIK SUB is an in-house designed 8-inch woofer. Its high-quality paper-pulp membrane combines low mass with rigidity to provide detailed low-frequency performance. An oversized ferrite magnet and high-flux motor system provide precise control, while a long, vented voice coil helps maintain cooling and minimise compression at higher listening levels.

The down-firing configuration also has practical benefits. It allows even bass distribution and gives BASIK SUB freedom when it comes to positioning in the room.

Driving the 8-inch woofer is a highly efficient Class-D amplifier delivering 170 W RMS and 220 W peak power.

Designed to provide dynamic and controlled performance, the amplifier uses a switch-mode power supply to keep both power consumption and heat generation low.

A built-in dual-stage limiter helps maintain signal integrity, while gain, crossover and phase controls make it straightforward to integrate BASIK SUB into a wide range of systems.

Performance and style

The BASIK SUB compact MDF enclosure is available in Solid Black, Solid White, Caramel White, Golden Yellow and Chilly Blue, allowing it to perfectly match DALI KUPID and SONIK 1 loudspeakers.

The MDF construction provides a rigid, acoustically stable foundation for the driver. Four decoupled feet elevate the cabinet by 25 mm, reducing vibrations while helping the down-firing woofer operate efficiently.

Its compact footprint means BASIK SUB can be accommodated easily in both smaller living spaces and larger rooms, whether positioned alongside a wall or in a corner.

Easy integration with hi-fi and home cinema systems

BASIK SUB has been engineered around DALI’s sound design principles to provide clean, low-distortion bass with precise timing.

A adjustable crossover enables the subwoofer to be matched to different loudspeaker sizes and room acoustics (if the amplifier does not have a dedicated subwoofer output or bass management feature).

Phase adjustment from 0–180° helps align low-frequency output with the main speakers, while independent volume control makes final tweaks easy.

LINE L/R inputs accommodate conventional hi-fi systems, while a dedicated mono LFE input allows easy connection to home cinema systems, AV receivers and streaming amplifiers equipped with a subwoofer output.
